SHELTON, WA – Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics is pleased to offer to the community a variety of classes, workshops and support groups this month.

The Mason General Hospital Diabetes Wellness Center will launch the first meeting of the new Type 1 Diabetes Support Group, from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the Ellinor Room of Mason General Hospital. This class is open to the public, but will focus on specific issues of people living with Type 1 diabetes every second Wednesday of the month. Call 360-427-7332 for more information.

The District also partners with the Karen Hilburn Cancer Fund and Harmony Hill Retreat Center to offer a Cancer Wellness workshop for patients and caregivers impacted by cancer. This support group will meet from 4 to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the Pershing Room of Mason General Hospital. This workshop typically meets every second Wednesday of the month. Learn the basics of first response by taking a First Aid/CPR/AED course from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, at Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics’ Learning Center, next to the McDonald’s on Olympic Highway North. A fee of $40, exact cash or check, is required in advance to cover the cost of books and materials. An eCard can be made available upon successful completion of the course. The Diabetes Wellness Center will also be hosting its two regular Diabetes Support Group meetings in September. The topic for the support group this month is “Reducing Risks: Labs.” The Shelton Diabetes support group meets from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, in the Pershing Room of Mason General Hospital and the Allyn diabetes support group will meet from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Port of Allyn meeting room. The Hospital is partnering with the Mason County Senior Activities Association and the Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging to present a new series of Matter of Balance classes at the senior center. The classes are designed to help older adults manage their risks for falls and increase activity levels. The class will be held for eight weeks, from 10 a.m. to noon, every Wednesday, starting Oct. 2, at the Mason County Senior Activities Center Pavilion at 190 W. Sentry Drive in Shelton.
